As the outgoing Executive Director of Nanaimo Community Hospice, one of the fasterest-growing and most successful non-profit organizations serving our community, Wendy has shown strong leadership and a keen awareness of the importance of fiscal responsibility
Over a 15-year period she built
an effective team of 12 staff and 250
volunteers. She started a successful for-profit
social enterprise to support Hospice programs, and learned to leverage every
dollar that was raised and return it ten-fold to the community through much
needed programs and services that supported our quality of life.
Wendy also successfully led
a capital campaign to raise $1.5Million to expand
capacity and her organization into the future as the demand for their services
grew.
She has a proven track
record of assessing community needs and taking
the steps necessary to initiate positive change. Wendy has the skills, the commitment and the
energy to get things done and it is these qualities that she will bring as a
member of City Councll.
Her experience working at the local, regional, provincial and national levels has
provided her with an ability to think globally while acting locally.
Wendy believes that a
healthy and strong Community honours its history and builds on its
assets. We live in one of the most
beautiful parts of the world. We
have everything we need right here to create a thriving business community that
supports a way of life that we all deserve.
Wendy believes that the
position of City Councilor is one of responsibility and trust and she takes
that seriously.
Wendy’s Platform will focus on building
collaboration and trust at City Hall and in the community, examining contentious issues through a fresh lens
and using evidence-based decision making to work towards solutions while
striving to promote equality and healthy living without creating an undue tax
burden.
